In this episode Suzanne continues exploring the Six Basic Emotions. Be sure to go back to previous episodes to find out about the first five...sadness, happiness, fear, surprise, and anger. This week focuses on the emotional state of DISGUST. She uses examples from the Pixar movie Inside Out to show concrete examples of disgust. She explains that these SIX emotions originated from the work of Paul Ekman. He did eventually add several other emotions to the list(not necessarily identifiable via facial expressions though)...amusement, contentment, excitement, embarrassment, relief, pride in achievement, guilt, satisfaction, and shame. She touches upon some yogic philosophy when discussing contentment. In Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga you will find niyamas. Within the niyamas you will find the word santosha which literally means contentment. She also touches upon Brené Brown's work when discussing the difference between shame & guilt. Her go-to methods for tolerating and getting through disgust, yoga + breath work + mindfulness. Such a powerful package. Be sure to get on the mailing list for even more Feelings Fitness goodness.
