The 2018-2019 school year has marked a milestone on my timeline. It's the year that both of my kids have landed themselves in school full time.
As a dreamer by nature, ever since having Clark 7 years ago, I would dream up scenarios of what I would do when my kids didn't need me 24-7 anymore. Would I continue to manage the household & spend the rest of my time volunteering at the school. Would I go back to teaching? Would I actually use the counseling master's degree that I felt so passionate about as I was going through the program?
Never in my wildest dreams did I envision starting my own business. I armed myself with lots of education prior to this year...M.Ed, LPC, RYT... But, never really could figure out what I'd do with all of it.
This might be a great place to interject the reality that I totally floundered prior to having kids. Yes, I armed myself with a lot of education, went to lots of workshops, obtained serval certificates, etc., but I was more like a serial student than anything else.
Right out of the college gate I took the totally traditional path as a classroom teacher. Although teaching aligned with my personality, it seemed to put me in too much of a box. But on the flip side of that, the entertainment industry that I tested out next was a little too unpredictable. I never seemed to figure out where I fit into the working world prior to kids, so stay-at-home-mom seemed like a good gig for me when kids came into the mix.
When the kids were both in pre-school, giving me a little breathing room, I took on a few little side hustles, once again trying to figure out my place in the working world. I started by selling jewelry & teaching a few yoga classes. This seemed to be a solid start until...
...the yoga studio I was teaching in closed their doors. Then on the heels of that , the jewelry brand that I was selling shut down too. And I'm all, "what is going on here?!?" But, it led me to this aha moment...I don't want to be at the mercy of someone else's business so...perhaps I should start my own.
Which brings me to the birthday, Pisces in the house, present that I gifted to myself...a business coach. Marie Forleo to be exact. I wanted help in creating a purpose-driven yoga-centric business. Side note, selling jewelry was never really my jam anyway! I have a bigger vision that expands beyond teaching one class at a time in a local studio. I want to expand my reach further & I also want my schedule to be flexible to be able to put my family first or in case the opportunity presents itself to roam the earth I could do that too! So...
Enter Feelings Fitness (Yoga) as a brand & business. This would be taking it well beyond its original purpose which was my ticket to obtaining a master's degree in counseling. What began as simply a graduate school project has evolved into a whole lot more!
I believe in the power of yoga & mindfulness. I believe that it can help moms brave motherhood. I believe it can help families (fun)ction effectively. By being mindful of our emotions & using yoga to move energy throughout the body, individuals & families can find peace & calm within.
With such a strong conviction in yoga/mindfulness & in an emotional awareness process that I have created for myself, I feel compelled to create a platform to share this process with others. Feelings Fitness (Yoga) does just that via yoga & mindfulness techniques & tools. Come find out how (Feelings Fitness) yoga can make you FEEL!
And so it begins. A new year. A big goal. And an excitement that words cannot even begin to describe!
