February: Food Focus!

.Food-focused February was a month that I dabbled, and when I say dabbled, I mean I really only dipped my toe into the information about Ayurvedic Diet. It was more of an uphill battle than I thought it would be. I came across many foods I had never heard of before. "Ghee" imagine that. Let me remind you that I am NOT a foodie, but I do like try new foods as a way to learn about new cultures. So, really all I accomplished this month was gaining knowledge about a new way of eating & focusing on a diet filled with fresh, whole foods. With a bowl of fresh foods smack in front of my face, I found myself gravitating towards a healthy snack of fresh fruit  more often than in the past!

 Valentine's Day lent itself to a focus on heart-opening yoga poses. The peak pose for the month was Ustrasana(camel). This pose tends to be more challenging than it looks, which in an ironical way matches very well with the idea of opening the heart. Easier said than done! So, here is my 40+ year old, 2x child-bearing body, no filters with heart wide open. It's always fun to do a picture like this and then come back to it in a year & hopefully see positive progress, both physically & mentally

Having very little knowledge of the Ayurvedic Diet at the start of the month, I grabbed a cookbook to help guide me through it. The cookbook I was drawn to was one that, typical of this diet, is geared towards the seasons. Feelings Fitness is very seasonally focused, so I wanted my eating style to match this theme. So far I have only used this cookbook to gain knowledge and add seasonal items to my kitchen/pantry, but up next, testing out a few of the recipes!

In this food-focused February, I realized that I really need to find healthy on-the-go foods otherwise I fall off the wagon. One of the items that I tend to grab often are granola bars. So, I realized I needed to read the labels & know what I am consuming. This month I have switched to the bar pictured above as well as Rx Bars. Fresh fruit has also been my other on-the-go, go-to food this month! It just FEELS good!
