This “De-Junk” January was extra special because it wasn’t just about clearing the clutter, it was about creating a sacred space to practice & teach yoga too. The de-junking process also allowed me to create a cozy space to host an inspirational book club. The process this time around was two fold, one it was about clearing my physical space, but two it was about clearing my head space as well! So, how did I go about this? Well, an approach that has always served me well is visualizing what I want. It is important to have a clear vision and then go for it! I am a firm believer in mantras as well. A favorite mantra of mine is “If you build it, they will come.” I add onto that, “If you believe in it, they will too!” The most important thing is to believe in yourself…you know, “drink your own kool-aide,” if you will. The vulnerability factor here is huge. I am not one to deal well with being vulnerable. How did I get to a place of allowing myself to be vulnerable? I found a few authors and/or podcast hosts that really spoke to me. Brené Brown really schooled me on what vulnerability is and why it important, so I read ALL of her books. Then, Gretchen Rubin schooled me on habits and happiness. After reading ALL of Gretchen's happiness related books, I turned to her podcast to fill the void between her books. One podcast led to another & inspiration was a plenty. Within each podcast I kept finding other people who really inspired and motivated me. I, of course, started with Happier(with Gretchen Rubin). I then found ,Mindful Mama, From the Heart(conversations with Yoga Girl), Truth and Dare(finding your truth & daring to change), Pursuit with Purpose…and the list goes on. I can honestly say that my confidence in myself blossomed through listening to these amazing women share their stories and strategies. Another book that was super helpful in this de-junking process was Simplicity Parenting. On the one hand it is very common sense stuff about creating a positive environment for the entire family, on the other hand we sometimes need some solid science/studies to get us to put words into action. As January comes to a close & this de-junking session is almost complete, I turn my focus to my yoga practice/teaching. I am starting off small, simply offering yoga classes/workshops to my friends & family. If all goes well, I will begin to expand my business. My vision is to raise the collective consciousness and send good vibes out into the world through yoga. I will also be putting together a book club to spread the word of the inspiring women who gave me the courage to believe in myself and follow my dreams.
This is a labor of love. This is me allowing myself to be vulnerable. This is my attempt to create a community of like minded people supporting each other to make the world a better place. Namasté
